Institute presentation
Established in 1811, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is one of the oldest general hospitals in the United States and is the original teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. With an annual research budget of over $750 million, MGH conducts the largest hospital-based research program in the United States, spanning more than 20 clinical departments and centers. The Department of Psychiatry consists of over 500 clinical and basic research investigators, and has the largest research program in the hospital, with studies at the forefront of neuroscience, molecular biology, and genetics. Within the Department of Psychiatry, the Psychiatric and Neurodevelopmental Genetics Unit offers world-class expertise in clinical and pre-clinical studies of psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders. Our faculty lead and are members of large collaborative patient genetic association studies of OCD, Tourette Syndrome, and other disorders, perform basic research in animal models and human populations to investigate the role of risk genes in disease, and conduct pre-clinical animal and clinical patient studies of new treatments.
